USING YOUR FAN<\/h3>\n

Connect the Red wire to\u00a0Pin 4<\/strong>\u00a0(+5V) Black Wire to\u00a0Pin 6<\/strong>\u00a0(GND) Blue wire to\u00a0Pin 8<\/strong>\u00a0(GPIO 14 TXD)<\/p>\n

Once you have connected your fan, by default it will be on whenever your Raspberry Pi is running. You can configure it to turn on only when your Raspberry Pi reaches a temperature that you choose.<\/p>\n

Using a recent version of Raspberry Pi OS, first update to retrieve any recent changes to the operating system:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Open the Terminal, either from the\u00a0Start<\/strong>\u00a0menu (click the Raspberry Pi icon in the top left corner) or by pressing\u00a0Control + Alt + T<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  2. Type\u00a0sudo apt update<\/strong>\u00a0and then, when the update has finished, type\u00a0sudo apt full-upgrade<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Then open the\u00a0Raspberry Pi Configuration\u00a0tool:<\/p>\n

    1. Click on the Raspberry Pi icon in the top left corner and select\u00a0Preferences<\/strong>\u00a0then\u00a0Raspberry Pi Configuration<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    2. Select the\u00a0Performance<\/strong>\u00a0tab.<\/li>\n
    3. Next to\u00a0Fan<\/strong>, click\u00a0Enabled<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
    4. If you have connected your fan as shown above, the default of\u00a014<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0Fan GPIO<\/strong>\u00a0does not need to be changed.<\/li>\n
    5. Select the\u00a0Fan<\/strong>\u00a0Temperature<\/strong>\u00a0at which you want your fan to turn on. The default is 80\u00b0C, which will stop the Raspberry Pi throttling on difficult tasks without having the fan on all the time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
